Messi turns up to the Oscars but pees on Matt Damon's Hollywood star

Messi, the border collie who starred in Anatomy of a Fall, did show up to the Oscars but ‘sought revenge’ from Matt Damon. It comes despite many film fans being under the impression the adorable dog was not allowed at the Academy Awards.

The awards show ended with Messi the movie-star dog peeing on Matt Damon’s Hollywood Walk of Fame star as part of the actor’s continued joke feud with presenter Jimmy Kimmel. Although the pup has already won over the hearts of many film fans for his performance in the flick, so we don’t think they mind.

The 96th Oscars ceremony took place on Sunday, March 10 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, and featured an adorable dog who has become a fan-favorite.

Messi is a border collie dog who starred as a character named Snoop. He plays Daniel’s guide dog in the Anatomy of a Fall, the drama which also picked up a Golden Globe this year.

Many film fans were outraged when they thought Messi the pup wouldn’t be at the Oscars this year, only to eventually realize he was! It followed reports some companies behind a number of films up for a gong were upset he attended the luncheon last month.

The award show also saw Jimmy Kimmel continue his joke feud with Oppenheimer star Matt Damon, using Messi as part of his prank.

After Kimmel concluded the broadcast, the camera cut to a shot of the seven-year-old pup lifting his leg to pee on Matt Damon’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Jimmy Kimmel and Damon’s frenemy feud

As long-standing frenemies, Damon and Kimmel have engaged in a playful feud for nearly 20 years.

While walking the red carpet, actor Matt was asked by an interviewer how he thought Jimmy Kimmel did at hosting the Oscars.

The celebrity casually turned around to face the interviewer and shook his head, jokingly answering the question: “He was terrible.”

Messi steals the show

The Academy Awards celebrate excellence in film, so it is no surprise Messi did turn up and steal the show.

Messi made headlines earlier in the broadcast when he took his seat inside the Academy Awards venue as the only canine with a designated chair.

The pup’s presence seemed to act as a good luck charm for the Anatomy of a Fall team, as director Justine Triet and writer Arthur Harari won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for their work on the French drama.

Messi was described as the award show’s VIP (Very Important Pup) and Twitter reactions saw fans express their excitement.

One user wrote: “Glad he was invited – after initially not being allowed to go.”
