Emma Watson's reason for not appearing in movies anytime soon is brutally honest
Emma Watson is taking her career’s longest hiatus. The actress was last seen in Greta Gerwig’s critically praised film Little Women. But fans want to know the reason behind the Harry Potter star’s absence from the silver screen.
From Beauty and The Beast to Little Women, Emma Watson’s acting career includes a number of award-winning movies outside the Harry Potter franchise. The 33-year-old celebrity, writer, and advocate has been dubbed as one of the brilliant actresses of the current generation. But even with all the fame gained at an early age, the actress was candid over her hiatus from Hollywood.
Why you don’t see Emma Watson in movies anymore
The star shared in a 2023 feature she felt ‘a bit caged’ while promoting films. She struggled with the very little control that she had in the overall process.
“The thing I found really hard was that I had to go out and sell something that I really didn’t have very much control over,” she said.
“To stand in front of a film and have every journalist be able to say, ‘How does this align with your viewpoint?’ It was very difficult to have to be the face and the spokesperson for things where I didn’t get to be involved in the process.”
The world of showbiz can be brutal, as stars are often held accountable for many decisions that they have no say over.
Emma highlights the criticism by saying: “I was held accountable in a way that I began to find really frustrating because I didn’t have a voice, I didn’t have a say. And I started to realize that I only wanted to stand in front of things where if someone was going to give me flak about it, I could say, in a way that didn’t make me hate myself, ‘Yes, I screwed up. It was my decision; I should have done better.’”
Emma is waiting for the ‘next right thing’
While Emma Watson is not appearing in movies or TV shows anytime soon, the celebrity is not taking a hiatus from her creative career altogether. The Regression star is pursuing a master’s degree in creative writing at Oxford University.
She will also be reportedly directing a music video by a famous artist. But, anymore details beyond that have still not been revealed.
She teased: “You will definitely have heard of him.”
Speaking of her next acting project, Emma is optimistic that the next right thing is right around the corner.
“I’m happy to sit and wait for the next right thing,” she says.
“I love what I do. It’s finding a way to do it where I don’t have to fracture myself into different faces and people. And I just don’t want to switch into robot mode anymore.”
