Somebody did something | Columnists

Last Thursday’s LLC brought me a happy moment. It’s been awhile. A front-page article by Mark Thornton about a Jones County Board of Supervisors meeting informed us about something we don’t see happening enough. Yep, “somebody did something” about something they were ticked off about in government. So, I’m happy to write here that I have a new best friend I haven’t met. Her name is Karen Royals and she’s my friend , and should be yours, too, because she did what we all ought to do — be involved and speak out.

As I read it, I couldn’t help but be impressed Royals did it to begin with, but she’d come prepared to make her case with facts and figures she’d had to dig for. Anyone dealing with government these days can count on digging because whatever board, council or office you’re trying to get information about isn’t going to hand you the shovel. They don’t welcome anybody turning their dirt.
