Eric 'Digger' Manes was born around 1974 in Newport, Tennessee, USA. His father owned a funeral home, and therefore, as Eric grew up, he mastered the art of embalming and eventually became a licenced embalmer. Although he is educated, details about the schools he attended are not available.

Eric Manes got the mentorship to join moonshining from Popcorn Sutton. Sutton was a legendary American Moonshiner and Bootlegger. Unfortunately, Sutton committed suicide in March 2019 to avoid imprisonment. He was the man responsible for nudging Manes to join Discovery Channel's show, Moonshiners.
Although Digger decided to join the show while Sutton was already gone, the decision was worthwhile. So he joined during the show's 4th season. As he continued to explore the business, he perfected his craft and decided to find himself a partner. He was lucky to get Mark Ramsey, who also shared the same enthusiasm and passion for the moonshining art.
Digger and Mark partnered on several related projects. The two collaborated with Sugarland’s Distilling Company in 2015. Moreover, they share a Facebook account which showed a high level of friendship and partnership.
In 2014, Digger became a household name when he debuted on the television series Moonshiners. Besides the Moonshiners show, the television personality appeared in other shows like Moonshiners: Shiners on Shine and Smoky Mountains Rise: A Benefit for the My People Fund.
